Shoe Trends 2017 | THE FLAT MULE
The Flat mule, a.k.a slide shoes or slides, is sometimes even referred to as the backless loafer. I’m usually not much of a trend follower, but the past couple of years have presented some good stuff that even I couldn’t ignore. The flat mule is one such trend. I love flat shoes y’all, for obvious reasons. And ever since becoming a mum, my high heeled shoes have been on a sabbatical. Days of traipsing the town in disabling shoes are now over (by choice). But that’s not to say you won’t ever see me in heels… every now and then a girl has to test drive her calf muscles and glutes, right?
Because of the above mentioned reasons, I am forever searching the world (okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration there), for the fairest flat of them all. Yes, I do have a thing for loafers, boat shoes, ballets flats you name’ em, and as you’d have it, one intelligentsia thought, there’s got to be more to this flat life than what we’ve been offered. And bingo! Out of his/her genius head popped the flat mule! Okay fine, maybe it didn’t exactly happen like that, and yes, I am very much aware that mules have been around since dinosaur days, but all you need to do is take one good look at these babies and you’ll witness the undeniable – the mule has had a MAJOR upgrade! They are definitely NOT the same old ugly ones that our mothers and aunties used to wear, and for that we are eternally grateful.
Besides the sleek formal look most of these backless loafers have, we adore the convenience factor! I mean, putting on your shoes need no longer be an event. You just slide’em on and before you know it, you’re out the door! I mean seriously! If that’s not the ultimate lazy formal shoe, I don’t know what is. You definitely look like you tried with these babies, even though zero effort goes into them. And sure enough, they may not give you the perk and height you get from high heels, but at least you retain the ability to run away from the boogie man, in style (if it ever comes to that). On the real though, these are more for those who love the comfortable chic style, and I’m all about that life! These are best paired with rolled up jeans or pants for that ‘I woke up like this‘ swag.
