Jesus, Post Easter

Jesus, Post Easter. I know the bulk of us go to church during the ‘big’ significant holidays like Easter or Christmas. Why though, guys? Is it to appease your parents / spouse? Oh, maybe just to get that little heavenly tick that keeps your Christianity status active in heaven? Seriously though, have you ever wondered why? Okay, it may not seem like a big deal, but imagine what would happen if you actually tried going to church for a whole year (or even a few months) after your annual Easter or Christmas visit. You know, giving God more than 5 days of your year. Personally I don’t see the point of a 2 out of 365 day relationship. It’s either I am all in or all out. P.S. Before I go any further, I’d like to clarify that this is not a message of condemnation, but of love. Love that loves you enough to be honest with you… and light a little fire under your cute tooshie. Okay? OK. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, imagine going to the gym or exercising only twice or three, four times a year. Would you get the same results as someone who has committed to exercising on a weekly basis? Aaaah, NAH. Imagine if you only saw your girlfriend or husband only twice a year (with not much communication in between those days). It doesn’t take a relationship guru to tell you that is certainly not a formula for the most successful relationship out there, right? So please my friends, let’s not treat God like we do the Easter bunny, and still dare to have this entitlement mentality when it comes to His blessings and protection over our lives. Don’t get me wrong – naturally, He will bless us and watch over us because He is LOVE, but don’t you think you’d get a lot more out of this relationship if you dared to give it more than just major holidays, and closet commitment? Yes, I said closet commitment, because a lot of us always try to use this whole ‘you don’t know about my relationship with God behind closed doors.’ Okay, great. I am happy for you. But do remember this.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in His glory and in the glory of The Father and the holy angels. Luke 9:26

But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! Yes, Jesus said so himself, in Revelation 3:16 Pretty intense huh?

As my friend Mogotsi eloquently put it… “While it’s good and commendable that we go out of our way to emphasize the message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ during the Easter Weekend, we should remind ourselves that this message is not a “special occasion” message. It’s what we should be preaching all year round. It shouldn’t take a holiday weekend to get us preaching what we ought to be preaching in the first place. If we only preach this message during Easter, then we’re as off-the-mark and as irrelevant as the chocolate bunnies and eggs that make a sudden appearance at the same time. The tomb is empty all year round. Jesus doesn’t get back into it to lie low until the next Easter holiday.”

So the real question is… where do you place Jesus, post Easter? Anyway, I just thought know it’s something worth thinking about. Also do have a listen to this cool dude below. Love you and let’s convene again soon. For more encouragement and inspiration, click here.
